I was recently asked if I’d like to try out a Yale Real Living Key Free Deadbolt for my door. I thought “wow! how high tech!” I said yes, because I hate having keys given out to everyone all over the place for when they pet sit for us (or a roommate that never returned my key.) Now I can program up to 25 different codes for different users! No one has to know one another’s code! Of course all opinions following are my own.
I installed the lock myself and it only took about 15 minutes to install. It probably would have been faster had I read the instructions thoroughly first! The lock fits right into a standard deadbolt hole in the door so there was no extra drilling required of me. You just screw in a few screws, attach a wire harness, add some batteries, and set up your codes. VERY simple! It is a really user friendly product. I had no problems with it at all. It did catch me off guard when it started talking to me, though! I had no idea my lock would talk to me.
Absence of the cylinder provides a “clean” appearance, yet means that lock picking or bumping are virtually impossible. In the unlikely event the batteries die – a 9V battery provides enough power to enter the code and gain access to the lock.

Another cool feature of this lock is that it can connect wirelessly to many home security systems so that it can be auto locked and send text notifications if someone unlocks your door. I now want a home security system! The YRD240 Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt Stand Alone comes in three different colors: brass, satin nickel, and oil rubbed bronze. You can purchase the lock for $200 or add in the security system radio module for another $125.
We just need to replace our ugly scratched up brass handle below it to make it all pretty and matching! Would you use a keyless lock on your door?

This is really cool. I love that you installed it yourself. It does seem to be a great tie-in with a security system and it would be great for my son in case we ever weren’t home on time when school let out, he could easily let himself in the house without needed to worry about losing a key.

As someone who lost A LOT of keys as a child, I vouch for the perks of this!
Kelsey Apley says
That sounds really awesome!! We are in need of a new door for our home and I would love to add this to it! Sounds like a great item to protect your home with!
Angela says
Wow, I wouldn’t have thought to use a keyless lock for my home. I’d have to think about it. But I love the idea.
Raijean says
How cool is that! Now, I want one for my house.
Liz Mays says
I don’t have this exact one, but something very similar and I absolutely love it. It makes coming home so stress-free not having to dig for a key!
Donna says
My husband installed one very similar to this one on our front door a couple of years ago and we love it.
Penelope says
Wow, really? How futuristic, and I really like this!!
HilLesha O'Nan says
That is pretty neat! I’ll have to definitely get something like this when I move out of my apartment.
Sara Phillips says
Oh my! I love this device! I like that you can program up to 25 codes (but that does seem like a LOT)! We would absolutely put something like this to use!
Robin {Mom Foodie} says
I could really have used this when my daughter mistakenly locked me ou of the house a couple years ago.
Lisa says
This is a great device, especially for kids that walk home from school before their parents get home, and tend to loose their key. Not that I have any kids like that……lol 🙂
Theresa @ Faith and Family Reviews says
This looks neat, I didn’t even know they had key-less locks for ‘regular’ people 🙂 I love the fact that it goes up to 25 codes!

We just finished replacing the handle set and deadbolt on our front door in that oil rubbed bronze finish! I like how sleek it looks. We have a touch pad outside our garage door which I agree is a nice feature so you don’t have to shuffle around for keys.
Kathleen B says
That is so neat. I have not seen these before, but they would definitely make you feel more secure.
Ty says
I’m definitely going to get one of these, it looks way too cool!

Looks like a great lock. It’s seriously high tech. Gone will be keys soon.
TerriAnn @ Cookies & Clogs says
Silly! I can’t believe that you installed it without even looking at the directions first. You’re such a stud to do that and in only 15 minutes 🙂
Colleen says
We have one of these that we are hoping to install in a new home.
Anne - Mommy Has to Work says
I have a keyless car and I would love a keyless house lock too!
Marcie W. says
I won’t lie, the thought of a keyless lock make me nervous, but I would still be up for giving it a shot. I really like that you can program up to 25 different codes, so even extended family could have access for house sitting or in the event of an emergency.
