I’ve been menu planning for the past 3 weeks and so far has worked out pretty well. I think there’s only been 2 or 3 nights that I haven’t stuck to the plan out of three weeks! One of the meals on my list was shredded BBQ chicken so that I could use it again for another recipe. I will make that recipe tonight. Overall I thought this recipe was pretty good, but could actually use more BBQ sauce flavor.
Slow Cooker Shredded BBQ Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 bottle 12 oz beer (I used Budweiser)
- 1 bottle barbecue sauce I used Sweet Baby Rays
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
-
In the slow cooker, add all of the ingredients except the chicken and stir to combine.
-
Place the chicken breasts in the slow cooker and cover with sauce.
-
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
-
Remove the lid and using two forks, shred the chicken. (You can shred it right in the slow cooker, but I prefer to take it out to shred so I don't miss any in the sauce.)
-
Cover and allow the sauce to mingle with the chicken before serving.
I’m getting 40lbs of boneless skinless chicken breasts from Zaycon in a couple of weeks – I am SO MAKING these! Thank you!!
That is a LOT of chicken! What is Zaycon?
Good on you for sticking with the meal plan. The shredded chicken looks yummy.
YUM! I love using my slow cooker and this sounds great. The only thing I would change in this recipe is that I would double the beer – one beer for me, one beer for the chicken. ๐ LOL!
Believe me, if I had that option right now I would have done the same thing. I crave beer when pregnant!
Looks good! Sweet Baby Ray’s is my go to BBQ Sauce. I just may try your recipe for an upcoming family party.
My husband loves shredded pork. I bet he’ll love shredded chicken if he tried it. I’m pinning this for later!
This looks delicious!! Pulled pork is one of my favorite things to eat. I will have to try it with chicken!
I love shredded pork, but I’ve never tried chicken – this looks delicious!
I just have to figure a way to grab one of hubby’s beers without him noticing !
This looks totally delicious!! I totally am going to have to try this. Of course, my local grocery store people would be shocked to see me buy beer. ๐
Totally trying this out! I like that its chicken not pork…a little better for my body! Great recipe!
I have made bbq pork in the slow cooker countless times, but have never done chicken. Am so on it this weekend! Yum!
That looks so good! Pinning it so I can make it for dinner next week.
I haven’t ever tried chicken this way. Can’t wait to give it a try.
That looks really good! I’m usually pretty lazy and get a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken, shred it and slather on the bbq.
That looks delicious! i pinned for later!
Easy and delicious! That is my kind of meal, thanks for sharing recipe! YUM!
This sounds so easy. Can you taste the beer or is it just to keep the chicken juicy?
I couldn’t taste the beer at all once it was cooked.
That whole meal looks delectable!
YUM! I wonder if my kids would eat them?
My kids devoured them. Really surprised me!
I’m using this for my 40lbs of Zaycon chicken too!
I love pulled chicken. I’ve always wanted to make my own and now I can! pinned!
I love having shredded chicken like this on hand. Leftovers freeze well & go great in so many dishes. (I love making pizza with it ๐

Looks delish. I’ve never tried chicken like this before. I will try it.
I’m bookmarking this to make it – so easy and I love using my crockpot. I just bought some Shiner Bock on clearance for 75 cents a bottle at the grocery store too!
I love doing this with pork roasts! My family gobbles them up ๐
