Little Man turned 4! An Angry Birds Party

Little ManThis past weekend was one full of parties! My Little Man, my baby, turned 4 on Friday. We started off the day by heading to Dunkin Donuts for the kids as we were running late that morning. Little Man and I had to run some errands after that and ended up at Chili’s for lunch; that’s his favorite restaurant. Dinner was a surprise for the kids at Chuck E Cheese. (My LEAST favorite restaurant!) He came home with an extra lovely present… a cold. Ugh!

So I asked Little Man what theme he wanted for his birthday and he told me Angry Birds, even though he had the same theme last year. I didn’t want to do a typical store bought cake. It’s been so long since I’ve made cakes for my kids. I went on a Pinterest mission to find decorations and ideas for the party to make it special.

Davids Birthday Party

I found printables from The Party Animal Blog to make balloons and party hats. Little Man spent the night at Grandma’s Saturday night and then came home after church so he didn’t get to see the decorations until I was done with the house. He was so exited to walk in and see the balloons hanging across the doorway with the Angry Birds faces.

Dirt Cake

Saturday night, the reason Little Man stayed at Grandma’s, we had a Lock-In for Cub Scouts. The theme was camping so my husband wanted me to make a dirt cake. We ended up with a whole leftover cake so I wanted to serve it at the party so that it wouldn’t be hanging out at my house tempting me to eat it. Since I wanted to keep in the theme, I took Little Man’s birthday present: Star Wars Angry Birds Jenga and decorated the dirt cake.

Cupcakes

For the cake I got the idea of these cute Angry Bird cupcakes from The Crafting Chicks. The piggy cupcakes were gluten free because a friend of mine that came to the party had just gone gluten free with her family. I used King Arthur Flour Gluten Free cake mix along with cream cheese frosting. The other cakes are cheesecake swirled devils food cake. I couldn’t find black licorice whips to make the eyebrows. At Walmart I found grape filled licorice that I used. It was ok, but a bit too thick, I think. My marshmallows were old and didn’t want to cooperate.

BuddyBuddy has become quite the pianist. He LOVES playing piano all of a sudden. Any time someone new walks into the house he has to play a concert for them. I’ll sure be glad when he’s done with his test in a week, though, because I’m tired of “Up on the Rooftop!” Seriously though, I’m glad that he loves music as much as my husband and I do. He can’t wait to start taking drum lessons from his dad.

Overall I think the party was a great success. The kids had a great time and the decorations were a hit. We didn’t do anything fancy for the food. I had a few munchies for before dinner: chips and dip and salsa, cheese and crackers, fruits and veggies. Dinner was just pizza from a local place down the street. For even more Angry Bird party ideas you can visit my Pinterest board. I just didn’t have the time to get more put together for the party.

We ended the evening with a family cuddle on the couch before tucking the party animals into bed.
