Chicago area moms! Are you interested in learning about what’s in your food that’s on your table? How would you like a chance to tour some farms and talk to some farmers face to face? Illinois Farm Families is looking for a new group of Chicago area moms to join their 2015 group to visit farms. Moms will meet Illinois family farmers, get a firsthand look at today’s farms, and should come with questions they want answered from the source. Specific topics discussed will be GMOs, antibiotic use on farms, hormones and animal welfare, along with many other topics. The 2015 season will kick off in February with a grocery store tour and group discussion with a registered dietitian. Two tours will be held in the spring (featuring a hog farm and spring planting-corn and soybean farm) and two in the fall (featuring a dairy farm and a beef cattle and grain farm). So if you have an interest in learning about the food on your table and topics surrounding food and farming in general fill out the application on www.watchusgrow.org. Deadline to apply is November 15. You will be notified in early January.
If you could ask a farmer a question, what would it be?
