Halloween

Halloween is almost here, and around our house that means one thing: it’s time to make treats that are as fun to look at as they are to eat. I dug through the Frosted Fingers archives and pulled out four of our favorite Halloween recipes from years past. Every one of these is kid-friendly to make — and trust me, with seven kids, I’ve learned which recipes survive a crowd.

Halloween Eyeball Bites

These little eyeballs are a Halloween party classic. Brownie (or cake) balls dipped in white candy melts, with a chocolate chip pupil and squiggly red “bloodshot” lines. They look impressively creepy for something so simple — and they disappear fast.

Frankenstein Brain Halloween Jell-O

If you want a real showstopper for the dessert table, this is it. Lime Jell-O with cream cheese, crushed pineapple, and pretzels, set in a brain mold. It wobbles, it jiggles, and kids absolutely lose their minds over it. Fair warning from my own experience: give it the full chill time or the middle flops!

Jack-o’-Lantern Sandwich Bites

Not everything on the Halloween table has to be sweet. These pumpkin-shaped hand pies are stuffed with ham and cheddar, with little cut-out jack-o’-lantern faces. They take some prep time, but they’re perfect party finger food — and the savory option balances out all the candy.

Frankenstein Marshmallows

The easiest treat on this list, and proof that simple wins. Marshmallows on lollipop sticks, dipped in green candy melts with black candy “hair” and drawn-on faces. Little kids can help make these start to finish — always a win in my book.

More Halloween Fun from Around the Web

And because I can never stop at just four, here are a few favorites from other bloggers that caught my eye:

Mummy Hot Dogs from Sugar and Soul

Hot dogs wrapped in strips of crescent roll dough to look like little mummies, with candy eyeballs peeking out. Savory, silly, and perfect for a Halloween dinner before trick-or-treating.

Oreo Witch Hat Cookies from Love to be in the Kitchen

Oreos + Hershey’s Kisses + frosting = the easiest witch hats you’ll ever make. No baking required, which means the kids can do the whole thing themselves.

Nutter Butter Mummies & Ghosts from The Soccer Mom Blog

Nutter Butters dipped in white chocolate become mummies or ghosts depending on how you decorate them — one batch, two characters. Another great no-bake project for little helpers.

Stock Your Halloween Baking Drawer

A few supplies that make these treats (and any Halloween baking) so much easier:

  • Wilton Edible Candy Eyeballs — for mummy dogs, Nutter Butter mummies, and anything that needs a googly eye
  • Brain Gelatin Mold — the key to the Frankenstein Brain Jell-O
  • Wilton White Candy Melts, 12 oz — for dipping eyeball bites, marshmallows, and mummies
  • Ann Clark Halloween Cookie Cutter Set — pumpkin, ghost, bat, witch hat, and more; made in the USA

Whether you’re throwing a Halloween party or just want something fun to make with the kids on an October afternoon, these never disappoint around here. Happy haunting!
