Two weeks ago I had the chance to experience lunch at Sullivan’s Steakhouse in Naperville, Illinois. It was such an amazing lunch. I would love a date night there with my husband before baby boy comes, but with that only being 31 days away I don’t see that happening! I loved that everything I ate, besides the sweet potato casserole, was ok for me with my gestational diabetes. I’m also REALLY glad I gave the sweet potato casserole a try!
When we first got to the restaurant they had the head chef come out and show us what was in the sweet potato casserole. It’s one of the most requested items on the Sullivan’s menu! He showed us how easy it was to peel a sweet potato after it’s been boiled (which is exactly how I do it!) The peel just falls off! They put all real ingredients in their casserole: sweet potatoes, LOTS of butter, brown sugar, and vanilla. They top it with some brown sugar and oats and bake it. It came out so delicious!
He then came back out to show us the proper way to crack King Crab legs. Unfortunately at that time baby decided it was potty break time! I know he told you to wear gloves that were like chain mail so that you wouldn’t gouge yourself on one of the leg spikes! 🙂
Most everyone at the table tasted their signature martini and bourbon mule. Being pregnant I didn’t get to take a drink. (Had I been sitting next to a friend I may have sneaked the tiniest sip just to tell you how they tasted, but I was sitting by strangers and I didn’t think it’d look too good to ask for just a sip of their drink!) Everyone raved about the drinks, though, so I’ll tell you they probably tasted good.
That was the best sweet potato casserole I think I’ve ever had. It was fluffy and not at all runny. It was not overly sweet, either. Just perfect. I did NOT have that whole serving. Just a few spoonfuls, but had I not been watching what I eat, I would have finished it off. It was delicious!
They went around the table asking us how we each wanted our steaks prepared and brought them out perfectly prepared. I honestly couldn’t say a bad thing about this restaurant! The staff was amazing, friendly, and courteous and the food was perfect!
They even brought us out our own Alaskan King Crab Leg already cracked. I’m not normally a crab eater, but I figured it fit well in my diet and I should try it to let you know how it is. I actually really liked it! My issue is a lot of crab is chewy and hard to eat. This was done just right and I had no problems with it at all. Yummy!
