About two weeks ago I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I changed my diet as soon as I found out and have been doing great overall. My average blood sugar reading for the past two weeks is 97. Up until Saturday, I hadn’t had a high blood sugar since the day before Halloween.
I went in on Friday for my check-up and everything is looking great. I actually lost 5 pounds since the last time I’d been in their office. The midwife didn’t say anything about the loss. I’m not actively trying to lose weight at all. When you drastically cut carbs the way I have, though, it’s bound to make some changes in your body. When I’m eating right I feel great. I’ve had energy up until about 10pm every night which is a huge change for me.
Saturday was a bad day for me. We got up and decided to finally clean the kids’ rooms from top to bottom. It was an all day project. Sadly it was an all day project that left me with no time or energy to cook. I had carbs ALL DAY LONG. My husband made me take my sugar two hours after dinner even though I hadn’t been tracking all day. My sugar at that point was 140. WHOOPS! I did SO much better being on track yesterday, though. After my reading that was on the higher end in the morning, the rest of my readings for the day were great. I even got a date with Charlie which hadn’t happened since April! I went to bed with a touch of a sore throat. I woke up with a pounding carb withdrawal headache and my sore throat is blazing. It’s going to be a long week! I’m just going to take it day by day, meal by meal.
Over the next week I want to start figuring out where to put baby’s clothes since I don’t have room for another dresser in the boys’ room. I also want to start getting my room ready for baby since he’ll be staying with us for a few months. I can’t get to my room until I figure out baby clothes, though, because I have 2 huge bags sitting on my floor in the way of everything. I also need to wrap Christmas presents that are piling up in my room. So much to do and so little time! I have only 39 days until baby day!

It sounds like you are doing a great job at keeping your sugars down. I had a few spikes like that myself but for the most part it stayed at a good number. It’s no fun not feeling well and then still have so much to still get done. Wow, I cant believe you have so much bought for Christmas already, that’s good, I need to get on that 🙂

I am currently 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I managed to dodge gestational diabetes the first pregnancy, hoping for the same this time. Sorry that this adds to the craziness of your pregnancy!

So sorry about your gestational diabetes! I’m 35 weeks pregnant now and was so worried I’d have it but very thankful I didn’t.
