Baby Q 1 Month Old!

1 Month Update #BabyQ This month has flown by crazy fast. I can not believe it was one month ago that I was in the hospital having a baby! Our family is settling in nicely to having a newborn. BabyQ has been such a happy and mostly easy baby. Our rough times of the day are while I have to make dinner (of course) and from about 9-11pm when she’s had a long day. Luckily the other kids will pitch in at dinner time and hold her to keep her happy. I’ve also been able to wear my mei tei carrier with her and that works great for us as long as I’m not making something that splatters. We saw the doctor today and she’s still worried about her not growing fast enough. She wants me to supplement formula with my breastfeeding. I’m not really happy with that. I’m not 100% anti supplement, but the formula I was using was making her projectile vomit and made her constipated for 6 days. Once I took her off her formula she started going again. The doctor gave me two other formulas to try. I haven’t decided what route I’m going to take yet. A friend of mine told me to meet with my lactation consultant to have her weigh her before feeding and after to try to see how many ounces she’s taking in every time she nurses. I will probably call her this week just to see what she has to say about all of this. Q’s doctor said she wants to see her gain 1 oz per day. She’s averaging 3 oz per week at this point. Here’s her stats:

Date Age Length Weight
1/24/2014 Birth 20″ 9 lb
1/27/2014 3 days 20″ 7 lb 14 oz
1/31/2014 7 days 20.5″ 8 lb 4 oz
2/7/2014 2 weeks 20.75″ 8 lb 6 oz
2/24/2014 1 month 21.75″ 8 lb 12 oz

Overall everything else is going great. She sleeps great stretches at night (except for last night when she wanted to party at 1:30 and we didn’t get back to sleep until around 4am. YAWN!) She’s been taking nice naps during the day as well, which is what’s getting me through getting some posts written here and everything else we’ve been up to lately. Her big sister ADORES her and wants to hold her ALL THE TIME! We all love Q very much and are glad she’s in our lives.

She is so sweet and so alert! Do whatever you think is best, but as long as she is gaining you don’t have to supplement. Still, I recommend talking to your lactation consultant before doing anything. If you do need to get on formula though, I’d suggest Earth’s best baby. I put Marwa on that when my milk stopped coming in and it’s organic and I get it cheaper than enamel and Similac with Amazon’s S&S and amazon Mom program.

STOP! I can’t believe she is already ONE MONTH OLD!

Definitely check in with the lactation consultant before you start supplementing again. From where I sit, I don’t think she needs it.

Oh it’s so nice that she is a good sleeper. Baby wearing wasn’t a big thing 18 years ago when our daughter was born – I wish it had been, making dinner would have been a lot easier on the days she was fussy!
