As you may remember, I wrote a review about Tassimo. I just found out that they are recalling about 835,000 coffee makers in the United States; another 900,000 in Canada. The agency also announced the recall of 4 million packages of Tassimo espresso T-discs. It turns out that the plastic disc can burst while the hot water is going through it causing second degree burns on a reported 140 people.
That’s pretty scary to me seeing that my children can run through my kitchen up to 10 times while I’m brewing a single cup of coffee. I would not want any of them to deal with serious burns from this machine.
Tassimo has issued a safety recall, though and is sending out a replacement part for the machine to take care of the problem. You can check the Tassimo Safety Recall site for details and to find out if your machine or discs are included. My machine was, but none of the T-discs I had on hand were. I just wanted to send out a buyer-beware since I recommended this product. I don’t want anyone to get hurt!

Thanks for this, I also did a review/giveaway for them and I am currently on my 3rd brewer. Each one has a 1 year warranty and I have had to replace them already. The first one did exactly what you described above, the t discs exploded while brewing so hot water and coffee grounds went eveywhere. The second one just started brewing cold coffee. So we will see how long the 3rd one last me. Fortunately they do replace defective brewers but it takes a while to get the new one in the mail.

Thanks for sharing this. We have one, too. My husband commented recently that the disc he uses for tea seemed to be melting and sure enough, our unit is part of the recall.

Its been more than 2 months and I am still waiting for my replacement part!
What am I supposed to do? I’m thinking of purchasing a different single cup machine. Especially since Tassimo has discontinued so many brands of coffee.
Absolutely no customer service at Tassimo! A bunch of nothings must work there.
They are owned by Kraft Foods, right? Think I had better sell my Kraft stock.

Wow! Mine came about a week after I requested it. I’m sorry you’re having issues getting yours. I’m not fond of the lack of options that Tassimo has, either. I’m also looking at a different single cup brewer…
