Last week I took part in a webinar with Melissa d’ Arabian, to learn more about LACTAID® Products. My father in law and son are both lactose intolerant so I’m pretty familiar with the brand, but I learned a lot at the webinar about being lactose intolerant and Lactaid. I had issues with dairy after Buddy was born. I took Lactaid pills at that point in order to enjoy dairy, but one day just stopped and dealt with the stomach issues that went along with it. I didn’t feel good at first, but felt ok after a while.
The LACTAID® brand has come a long way and have a ton of different products now! In fact when I was taking Lactaid, I didn’t realize there was a product line besides the pills. They even have ice cream, which I’d like to have at my next party for my father in law to enjoy without being sick.
What is LACTAID?
• LACTAID® Products can help people who have a lactose sensitivity to digest dairy products without stomach discomfort so they can enjoy the creamy, delicious taste of dairy that they love
• LACTAID provides the lactase that the body can’t produce enough of, which helps you break down lactose
• LACTAID® Dairy Products are 100% real dairy, just with a natural yeast-derived enzyme added called lactase
• LACTAID® Lactose-Free Products include Milks, Cottage Cheese, Ice Cream and Eggnog
• LACTAID® is the nation’s #1 lactose-free dairy brand.
Later this summer I’ll be sharing a recipe that I make with something from the Lactaid brand. I haven’t decided yet what I want to make. Have you made anything with Lactaid before? The Motherhood has shared some really cool tips about eating lactose products:
Tips for eating with Lactose Intolerance:
• Important note: if someone who is lactose intolerant consumes products containing lactose on an empty stomach, they will be more prone not to tolerate it. Eating lactose with other food will help you digest it more easily
• Many lactose-intolerant people find that yogurt doesn’t bother them
o Yogurt has live and active cultures in it that help digest the lactose
o Greek yogurt has double the protein and fewer carbs, which means less lactose and easier to digest
o If tolerated, yogurt is a great way to get nutrients and calcium needed in an everyday diet!
• Rule of thumb for eating cheese: the harder the cheese, the less moisture or whey in it—as a result, the less lactose in it
o Always choose the aged cheeses, as they are lower in lactose
o Aged Cheddar, Gruyère, Pecorino and Swiss cheeses will have less lactose in them
