My current project: Pantry Organization

home organizationSee that disaster over there? That’s my project I’m getting started on. I need food storage, shelf organizers, and to just plain throw things out! (Well, donate if the food is still good.) I ordered a few can racks and am thinking I may need one or two more racks. You can see I already got a rack for my place mats. I love having a place for them so they’re not sliding all over the place and falling out at me. I’ve had a sore nose from a plastic place mat falling in my face once. I want to get a few baskets to have ready made snacks for the kids in and want to take advantage of the clear containers I have for sugar and flour. I bought a paper bag holder because my husband likes to line our garbage cans with a paper bag and unless you put wall anchors in, it pulls right out of the wall. It also looks a lot smaller in real life. I think I got screwed on that one. I also bought a basket for my cabinet in my kitchen that’s supposed to be made to hold coffee mugs. The weight of the mugs is too heavy and it weighs the basket down so much it touches my dishes. #DesignFail!

My goal is to have this in presentable order within 2 weeks. Do you have an organized pantry? I’d love some motivational pictures if you want to share. I’ve been spending a good deal of time on Pinterest for ideas. How do you store cookie cutters? You can see at the bottom there that I have a big container of them. I saw on Pinterest that some people use a standing paper towel holder. I’d love any ideas on how to declutter that you’d like to give. I almost want to get rid of everything and start over again!

Our pantry is pretty organized but I don’t feel like we have a ton of things in our pantry other than food. Be sure to share pictures once you are done with your project. I am interested to see how it all turns out.

I had a pantry in my last house and it was such a blessing! I miss that here! I did have a basket of snacks for the kids, and it worked out so well. Do that!

I used pinterest too. What I noticed was the use of big baskets to keep like items together, and it makes the pantry look organized since what you mainly see are the basket! Really helped tidy up our pantry, and armoire, and hall closet, etc!

OMG I’m there with you. I desperately need to do this. Our is nice and roomy but cluttered to the top. I can’t even step in there. Thanks for sharing this stuff.

Phew! Good luck! My cupboards look like this. I’ll probably just wait until the summer when I can send the E and the Dave out to the pool and go crazy town.

I had to give up my upstairs laundry for it. Laundry is now in the basement.

    I do…

NOT have an organized pantry. But surprisingly I know where every single thing is placed in there. So it looks super messy but I can tell you without looking where the cinnamon is lol.

I’m just envious of your large pantry. Mine isn’t really organized, but it’s tidy. It’s also VERY small. I hate it. But we’ve lived here for 11 years and I just deal with it. I nice sized pantry is something I’ll be looking for when we start house hunting. Good luck getting yours the way you want.

My pantry is a mess. And well not even floor length… and more like a closet. You can do it! can’t wait to see what it looks like in the end.

Pegboards are inexpensive and you can find holder for all types of items, like cookie cutters. It looks like you just need some shelves. If you have little folks, you can cut a curve out of the middle of the bottom shelves so they can get to their snacks.

Something I find helpful all over then house is the 3-tier hanging baskets. You could hand some in your pantry to keep dangerous items out of the hands of the kiddoes. When my son was an infant, I used them for diapers, ointment and butt wipes. They are useful in the bathroom to keep toys out of the tub.

You may want to think about returning to glass for storage. BPA is rampant in all plastic. Go to Goodwill and you can pick up fine, glass cylinders with rubber gaskets. Baskets (also at Goodwill) make handy storage, too. If you are interested in BPA, I am writing another article about BPA. It should be up tonight.
