This was an unexpected stop during my trip to New Orleans with Bloggers on Bourbon. I was on my way home Sunday evening and was sitting in the airport. I happened to look up and notice that my plane says “delayed” all of a sudden. What?! The storm turned out to be nothing, so I knew it wasn’t weather related, at least not in New Orleans. They came over the intercom to tell us our flight was stuck in Atlanta and we would ALL miss our connecting flights. They said we would make it to Atlanta that night, but would not be able to move forward until the next morning. I went up to the Airtran counter and they gave me my flight for the next morning, gave me a voucher for food and voucher for a hotel. They said we’d be able to grab a shuttle once we got into Atlanta and get some sleep at the local Atlanta Wyndham Gardens Hotel. (Let me say, I can’t believe how rude people are! I was in line and people were yelling at the local Airtan workers, as if they had anything to do with it or could change the course of events! I just smiled, said thank you and got on my way.) Once we finally landed in Atlanta, it was every man for himself! People were practically running to the shuttle and almost pushing each other to make sure they got on the first shuttle. Some of us knew we’d only get 2 hours of sleep (me!) As soon as we got to the hotel, it was the same thing… who can get in first?!
As soon as we walked in the door, the desk clerk was ready for us! She had all the key cards made up and in piles. It was SUPER fast at check in. You walked up, told her how many in your party and handed her your voucher. That was it! She handed you your card and you were on your way to bed. SUPER!
The room was beautiful. Sorry the pictures don’t do it justice, but it was 2:30am when I got there and I’d only gotten 4 hours sleep the night before! The bed was completely comfy, too bad I only got to lay in it for 2 hours.
I’d just like to suggest that if you’re traveling to Atlanta, the Wyndham Gardens Hotel is a great place to visit! I love how on top of things they were.

I can’t stand it when people act like that – treating those who have no control over a situation is just wrong. Glad you were able to get a room and food free even though you got so little sleep. I try to tell myself – you can’t control what is going to happen – only how you will react to it.

why do people have to be so rude? The airline was giving out rooms & food vouchers, what more do they want? I suppose if they complain loud enough they think they will get ‘more’… geeze those desk clerks at the airport & hotels have no control over the weather just like you & I… let alone getting a plane to fly any faster or safer through the air to your destination. Give people a break.. if the desk people were jerks, I could see it… but the patrons were just being cranky two year olds!
too bad you didn’t have more time to enjoy the bed & room. But glad you got home safely! and still wish I could of been there with you!

So glad you had a good experience and that you didn’t buy into the mob mentality and practically kill someone to be “first.” UGH, I hate it when people are like that!
And I have to say, had that happened to me, I’d probably be a crying puddle of mess at the airport. Flying is hard enough for me but change my flights and OMG, expect me to stay alone in a hotel in a strange city? I’m hyperventilating, just thinking about it.
