This weekend, The Brook Theatre at Bolingbrook High School presents Puffs — a fast, funny musical comedy about the students who spent seven years at a certain school of magic, just a little to the left of the spotlight.
This isn’t the story of the famous heroes. It’s the story of the Puffs: the loyal, big-hearted, endlessly earnest students who were there for all of it — the classes, the chaos, the friendships, and the growing-up — without ever being the ones destined to save the day. If you’ve ever felt like the sidekick in someone else’s big story, this show is for you. It’s silly, it’s heartfelt, and it moves at a wonderful clip.
My son David plays Cedric, one of the Puffs. We love the confidence theater has given our kids, and since this is David’s senior year, all of this feels a little bittersweet — one more show, one more weekend in the audience watching him do something he loves.
