kids in the kitchen

This week has been better than the last few weeks. For the most part we were healthy, except for Monkey for about a day and  a half. I did a lot of experimenting in the kitchen from making my own ketchup, bbq sauce, a new meatloaf “recipe” and gluten free sweet and sour chicken. Speaking of the sweet and sour chicken, Monkey decided she wanted to help me out with the recipe. Seeing that I had just put together the recipe the hour before and I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants I didn’t feel comfortable letting her help much. She helped at the beginning when I needed something stirred and kept asking if she could help with more. I would tell her “in a minute” and she eventually just left. She doesn’t have the patience to wait out a long recipe and that’s ok. Any time that the kids can spend in the kitchen, learning the ins and outs is great for them. I told my mother in law the other day that I’m going to teach my boys to cook so that they don’t have that excuse when their wives are sick or busy. They should be able to step in and help out when needed.

Making Sweet and Sour Chicken

Sorry about that tangent! So while I feel bad that Monkey didn’t get to help out much, I’m glad that she got to help out some when she asked to.

What did you and your kids do for dinner this week? Share photos, stories or recipes that include your #kidsinthekitchen. I would love for you to join me and my co-hosts, Melinda at Look What Mom Found and Sara at Sensibly Sara, each week linking up a post, new or old, that feature the theme Kids in the Kitchen. It doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you are doing it together and enjoying it and learning something.

  • preparing healthy snacks
  • having a tea party
  • counting skills with m&ms
  • pouring from measuring cups
  • discovering a local restaurant that your kids love
  • creating new family friendly recipes

About Paula

Paula Krueger considers herself a "baby "chef, not because she cooks for babies, but because she's still learning how to cook. She started this blog after taking Wilton method classes and at that point was more interested in baking. She's since become more interested in learning to cook as her family has grown. She also covers product reviews and travel as well.

Totally with you that cooking is not a “girl thing!” Zach is in the kitchen with me just as much as Addy! Maybe more, since she’s at school all day. This week, he’s suddenly really in to being my “helper!”

I love that she wanted to help out! AND that your boys are learning just as much as Monkey!

My grandsons LOVE to help in the kitchen and I think it’s a good learning experience for them so they can share the cooking in their relationships 50%!!
