Between November 13-20 Jeff Kinney, the author of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, was making his way across the US and Canada to kick off the release of his 7th book: The Third Wheel. On the 16th, my family and I were able to go to one of his tour stops to get our book signed and meet Jeff. I had no idea what to expect from the book signing, besides that we’d meet Jeff. We walked into the school and the gymnasium was pumping! They had some loud music going. We met up with our rep who gave us a tour of the tour bus, (hello tight quarters!) and then told us to enjoy the party until all the people getting their books signed were done so we could have some extra time with him.

Buddy isn’t much of a joiner, so he didn’t want to dance at first. He took his new book and laid on the floor reading. I didn’t want to discourage him from reading, but I also want him to learn to get up and have fun. He did eventually join his sister and brother on the dance floor.

Monkey wouldn’t let me take a picture of her with the Heffleys. It turns out that one of our friends was there, though, so she posed with  Buddy for a picture.

Besides dancing, you could get your pictures taken in a photobooth, sign the Roderick door, get tattoos and even draw your own pictures from Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Meeting the author, Jeff, was great! He was still smiling and upbeat even though it was very close to 9pm and his fifth stop for the day! I wish I had a copy of some of the questions that my other blogging buddies asked, but I wasn’t prepared. That night was the first night that Buddy ever got to read one of the books so I had no questions ready to ask Jeff. He has since finished book #2 and is starting on book #1 tomorrow. (I know, we started a little backwards.) He now has books 3-6 son his Christmas list since he has #7 already. Here’s a little about the newest book:

Love is in the air—but what does that mean for Greg Heffley?

A Valentine’s Day dance at Greg’s middle school has turned his world upside down. As Greg scrambles to find a date, he’s worried he’ll be left out in the cold on the big night. His best friend, Rowley, doesn’t have any prospects either, but that’s a small consolation.

An unexpected twist gives Greg a partner for the dance and leaves Rowley the odd man out. But a lot can happen in one night, and in the end, you never know who’s going to be lucky in love.

How would you like to win a copy of a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book? You will have your choice of one book between 1-7.

Note: I was given a book and chance to meet the author in exchange for my post. All opinions are my own.
