Lizzie’s First Mother’s Day (short story)

Today is Lizzie’s first mothers day. When she woke up, she assumed that her husband didn’t get her anything, not even flowers. Baby Andrew was too small to do anything for her himself. She was really hoping that Nathaniel would have done something small like breakfast in bed, have flowers delivered or even made a card from Andrew. Lizzie called her friend Bethany up crying. This was Bethany’s first mother’s day as well.

Bethany’s husband had gotten her a beautiful birthstone necklace and flowers, brought her breakfast in bed and he was planning to take her out to dinner that night to celebrate. Lizzie was totally jealous of Bethany. She had to get off the phone because Andrew was crying in the other room. She went into the nursery and started rocking baby Andrew and cried. They both fell asleep. When she woke up she looked down at Andrew’s beautiful face and realized she had the world’s best Mother’s Day present in her arms.

She left the nursery glowing after her found happiness. As she stepped into the kitchen she found that Nathaniel hadn’t forgotten Mother’s Day at all. There was a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a letter from Nathaniel. The letter thanked Lizzie for being the best mother that Andrew could ever have and the best wife that Nathaniel could ever hope for. Lizzie realized she didn’t need material presents to make her happy. She just needed the two men in her life by her side.

Note: This is a short story written by me. It’s not a true story, but may echo a few situations that happened in real life. Bottom line, love what you have! The grass may seem greener on the other side, but if you tend to your own grass it can be more beautiful, lush and green than any other grass you’ve ever seen.

Very sweet. Mother’s Day is always an issue in our house. But the older boys are now old enough to really try on their own and THAT is the most amazing thing ever!!!
