Before I ever had kids I knew I wanted them to be in Scouting. I was a Girl Scout from Brownies- Seniors. I got my Silver Award but never finished up my Gold. Growing up in Scouts made me who I am. I absolutely loved scouting. Turns out I married someone that feels the same way! My husband was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He’s been looking forward to sharing it with his boys. This fall Buddy is old enough to become a Tiger Cub. He goes to his first meeting next week and I can’t wait to get him there! Even though he hasn’t been to his first meeting I’ve gotten so many emails about things going on in his pack. He’s definitely joined an active pack and I’m grateful for that. He even has the chance to stay the night at the Field Museum in Chicago next year.
One of the things I think Buddy needs out of Boy Scouts is something to break the Back to School Tension. I can tell he’s been feeling it lately. We’ve been dealing with him acting up and back-talking. Not something I’m used to from him. He’s a very well behaved, polite, kid so this new turn in behavior is hard to handle. There’s been a lot of changes in his life lately. He is now in school full time, he’s on the football team and we have a friend staying with us until he can get on his feet. That’s a lot of changes for a little guy. I think being in Scouts will be good for him because he’ll get to experience so many new things, be away from the family for a little bit and work on projects with other adults and his peers. I think this is going to be a great year for Buddy and us. Not only will he get to experience all these things, but Boy Scouts makes sure the whole family is involved. We’re going to have a great time taking him to these events and joining in with him.
If you have a boy over the age of six you might want to look into letting him Be A Scout. Were you a scout or is your child in scouting? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

We started scouts last year with Jake but I couldn’t keep up with that and football and because of his allergies we were hesitant for him to go on a lot of the activities. As he gets older we may choose to have him join again. He does get the ‘Boy’s Life’ magazine and loves it.
Scouting is great!
