Did you know: According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, which puts them at increased risk for heart disease, diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.
I know I’m one of those two-thirds. I’ve been struggling with my weight for years. I went on Weight Watchers in 2004 and lost 30 pounds, but then got pregnant and that all went out the window. I rejoined this year and lost around 12 pounds, but since I started working I’ve not had the time to work the program. For those that are on the go and trying to lose weight, there’s Healthy Choice.
- Recent research shows that replacing 10 meals per week with a portion-controlled Healthy Choice meal, as part of a reduced calorie diet, can lead to improved quality of life and dietary quality.
- The study, conducted during 2009 and 2010, followed more than 60 participants for 30 days with one group primarily eating Healthy Choice meals for lunch and the other group mainly for dinner every day. Participants were also instructed to add 2-3 food items to their diet, such as fruits and vegetables, according to their caloric/gender needs.
- Participants in the study:
o Lost an average of six pounds and trimmed their waistlines by about one inch
o Improved the quality of their overall diets by increasing dietary fiber, reducing saturated fat intake by 50 percent and consuming 30 percent less cholesterol and sodium
o Reported an increased sense of well being, having more energy and feeling healthier after just 30 days
As Americans we look for ways to make simple, positive changes to their diets, incorporating a ready-to-eat, pre-portioned healthy option, such as Healthy Choice, is a simple way to be more health conscious, lose weight and improve quality of life. Healthy Choice has nearly 70 varieties for fewer than 400 calories that provide positive nutrients such as whole grains, fiber, protein and antioxidants.
So far I’ve not found a Healthy Choice meal I haven’t liked. They have so many options now. They have the steaming entrées, all natural entrées, select entrées, cafe steamers, complete meals, fresh mixers, frozen treats, soups and breads . I’ve always liked their sweet and sour chicken meal and their Hearty Chicken canned soup.
What are you doing with your family to help make Healthy Choices?
My husband’s schedule has changed so we’re going to start taking walks or riding bikes in the evenings when I don’t work. I make sure my kids get at least one fruit or vegetable with every meal. I keep my kids active and in sports and classes. Pretty soon I’ll be working out with 20 Second Fitness. I can’t wait to see my results with that. (You’ll be able to follow along on my progress.) Also, having re-found Healthy Choice, I’ll be eating more of these meals instead of grabbing a nasty burger while out and about for work!
I also wanted to mention that Healthy Choice and ConAgra foods have the program “Child Hunger Ends Here.” When consumers activate their purchase online at www.childhungerendshere.com by entering an eight-digit code, a monetary donation will be made enabling one meal to be secured by Feeding America® on behalf of local food banks, up to a maximum of 2.5 million meals for codes entered through 8/31/11. Valid in the U.S. only. $1 donated = 7 meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks.
