Pretty Neat, organization, buttoned up, reviewIs your life a disorganized mess? Are you looking for help? Check out the book Pretty Neat by Alicia Rockmore and Sarah Welch of Get Buttoned Up.

Pretty Neat is a handbook that embraces the chaotic reality that lies beneath org porn’s glossy veneer, offering pithy anecdotes and candid advice from experts and real women alike on tackling organizational inertia. Funny, irreverent, entertaining, and helpful, the book covers all facets of clutter-control, from tried-and-true tips for conquering to-do lists and wrangling family schedules to ideas on excavating inboxes, eliminating excuses, and delegating housework. Most importantly, Pretty Neatinsists that women need to stop holding themselves to impossibly high standards, and focus instead on defining their own, realistic organizational goals. Full of engaging examples from everyday women, Pretty Neat offers readers unorthodox, surprisingly simple methods to reduce their org porn–fueled stress, insisting that perfection is impossible — and unnecessary — in this messy, unpredictable world called real life.

Pretty Neat is a very quick and easy read. I love the little tips made in each chapter. There’s a whole chapter on Mastering Home-Cooked Meals. I’m pretty sure almost all of us need help there. I know I do! I love to cook and bake, but my kitchen is not organized AT ALL.

The majority of people interviewed about their organizational priorities listed these items:

  • Completing work-related tasks well and on time
  • Keeping the home somewhat presentable and functional
  • Ensuring finances are in order and bills are paid
  • Staying on top of the children’s needs and schedules

They pointed out that while it’s a good list, there are so many vital things left off, like: you time, time for friends, time to nurture your relationships.  There are tons of great tips in the book about time management, to-do lists, technology, etc. I would definitely check it out. They’ve also interviewed a bunch of women and made videos. Check out their YouTube channel and I’m going to share one video here:

You can also get great organizational tips by checking out Get Buttoned Up and following them on Twitter.

Buy It:

You can buy Pretty Neat at Get Buttoned Up for $14.95 or Amazon for $10.17

I was given a copy of this book for free to review. All opinions in this post are my own.

Well, that is Pretty Neat. LOL. These types of books are seriously addictive and I find myself trying to do all the things they tell me all at once. Don’t do that, LOL, baby steps ya’ll.
