I put fake roses on the top layer of the cake and cut the stems off the roses. Monkey decided (after I got that bottom layer perfectly smooth) that she wanted to help decorate and jammed the stems into the cake. “Look Daddy, I helped!” You should have seen my husband’s face!! Luckily it was whipped cream frosting and VERY easy to fix!

The trick is to dip your spatula into a glass of hot water and swipe it over the frosting.

You did such a smooth job for frosting… does using the whipped cream frosting help with that?
Whipped Cream frosting was a DREAM to frost with. It was not a dream, however, to decorate with. It separates from the heat of your hand. If you look on my cakes page you can see the giraffe and lion cake I did recently. That was with whipped cream.

at least the marks weren’t finger marks!!! My bro used to be infamous for this, I caught him trying to pass it along to my son at Christmas time…Pies might have to be kept in the upstairs fridge from now on!!!
Finger marks happen ALL THE TIME here, too. Especially when you have 3 kids!!

Aw, I love how kids always want to help! I say bake them a cake and give them frosting and sprinkles and let them go to town while you work on your own! And then shower them in praise when they rock at decorating!! 🙂
