Fruitasia Gift BasketI was given the chance to chose from the Birthday Gift Baskets at ProFlowers. I chose the Fruitasia gift basket because my family needs more fruit in their diet and since I’m training for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® walk in 4 weeks, I definitely didn’t need a basket of chocolate.  (Although I did consider it for a few minutes!) The Fruitasia gift basket comes with a variety of pears and apples, along with a few oranges mixed in:

  • 3 Imperial Comice or D’Anjou Pears
  • 2 Cherry Moon Sensation Red Pears
  • 3 Buerre Bosc Pears
  • 3 Fuji Apples
  • 3 California Navel Oranges
  • 2 Granny Smith Apples

Product Description

A feast of flavors and sweet nectars – 16 pieces of fruit in all – this selection offers harvest-fresh morsels from every corner of the grove. Equally opulent is its dramatic presentation, making this the perfect gift to impress someone special or show someone how much you care.

My daughter has not kept her hands out of the basket since it came. My husband was in there searching for a snack and said “I see someone has been nibbling on the apples!” My family is definitely enjoying the basket full of fresh fruit hanging around! Unfortunately, so are the fruit flies! Does anyone have a suggestion to get rid of those buggers?

Were they all good pieces of fruit? When I get a basket from the store, they usually have the almost ready to go bad fruit in them.

One pear had a bruise show up on it but I don’t know if it came that way or if it was a product of Monkey messing around in the basket.

The basket looks yummy! To get rid of fruit flies take an empty soda bottle…like a 20 oz one, add 1/4 cup red wine vinegar and a little fruit juice and a squirt of dish soap. Cover the top of the bottle with plastic wrap. Poke a pen sized hole in the plastic wrap. Leave the bottle on your kitchen counter or window sill for a few days. The flies will be attracted to the liquid and drown.

For fruit flies… my mom would always put several wine glasses around with just a sip or two of wine left in them. The flies are attached to the sweet wine, but the get trapped and drown in the wine. Leave over night and the next morning, you should have flies doing the back stroke…

    Good luck!

Hey Paula….I’m in the West Chi CoOp group w/you & didn’t know that you were blogging! I haven’t participated in a co op in a while….BUT I love fruit baskets & am glad to hear that yours arrived in good condition and that the fruit was tasty! How much would this basket be (a ballpark figure is fine) for a consumer to send as a gift?

Robin, So sorry it took me so long to respond. Been crazy here! Thanks for coming to my blog! The basket itself is $49.98. I don’t know how much delivery is, though.
