Savvy Cents

Melinda over at SavvyCents has created a wallet for those that use the envelope cash system.

Savvycents was first formed in January of 2009 after Melinda Claudpierre read a book about becoming debt free and following the cash envelope system of budgeting.

Frustrated with paper envelopes and disorganization with her wallet, she wanted to create a wallet that would allow her to keep her cash in separate categories and also give quick access to her drivers license, coin holder, and all of her discount cards and coupons. The Savvycents wallet allows you to have all these thing in an attractive wallet that every woman would love to carry.

Melinda Claudepierre – President and creator of Savvycents is a stay-at-home mom of three kids and has been married to Jon for thirteen years. She is a former teacher.

Melinda has allowed me to review her wallet and tell you about how I use it for couponing. I got tired of carrying around a separate wallet and plastic wallet for my coupons. I heard about Savvycents and thought it would be perfect for me and my couponing!

The wallet has 5 different file sections that you can label with the preprinted labels or label however you want. Since I opted to use it for couponing I labeled each section with a store I frequent:

  • CVS
  • Dominick’s
  • Jewel
  • Target
  • Walgreens

I would love to see 2 more pockets because I also sometimes go to Meijer and would love a misc section to hold my coupons I carry for “just in case” such as free ice cream coupons or restaurant coupons.

Photobucket What I do with each section is create my shopping list at Ziplist and get all my coupons and/or gift cards together for that store and put it in the file folder for that store. It has been extremely nice to have everything in one place for shopping. I’ve been using it for two weeks now and am very pleased with it. The construction of the wallet is solid. I foresee using it for a long time.

Buy It

You can purchase a SavvyCents wallet for $24.99. They come in black or red patent leather. She will have a pink wallet for sale soon.

Win It

Melinda has offered to give one Patent Black wallet to one of my wonderful readers. You need to complete the mandatory entry first. For each additional entry that you do, please sure to leave a separate comment on this post.

One thing I do if I’m not totally organized and have coupons together I will write a note on the coupon for which store it’s for because I always cute the coupons a little big and I always try to match coupons with store sales and try to go to two different stores a week and I plan to go alone with no kids either in the morning or after 7 pm

I purchase the early Sunday edition of the paper from a large city, and its only $0.75 and has more coupon inserts than our local paper, so I get better coupons.

I’m not sure that this is a trick. Maybe more of a tip? My family loves to eat out. I try to limit that but we try save money on dinner by finding restaurants that offer kid eat free nights. =) Thanks!

I save money by shopping the about to expire shelf at my favorite fresh foods store, I check there first because it’s usually got things I already buy. Thanks for the opportunity!

  35. Lynette Mattke says

I like using coupons and I do a lot of comparison shopping- between stores and also between brands in a single store. I buy a lot of organic and health-food type products, as well as non-processed foods, even though they are often more expensive. A lot of those products don’t have coupons: eg. fresh vegetables, bulk whole grains, so I look for in-store specials.

Oooo — love this! We also work on a cash envelope system in an effort to curb our spending.

One thing I’ve started doing to save money is (1) menu plan for EVERY meal of the week; this helps me create an exact “need this” grocery list and eliminates any rash, spur of the moment purchases at the store.

Second, I always buy the store brand rather than “name” brand; there is honestly NOT a difference in taste and the savings are sometimes as much as 75%!
