Mimi's Cafe, heart research, American Heart AssociationLast Friday, Mimi’s Cafe had a special Go Red for Women event at their restaurants. They encouraged people to wear red to help raise awareness of the American Heart Association trying to raise funds to help raise money for Women’s Heart Disease. If you wore red, you were able to get a free bowl of soup. If you donate at least $1 you get coupons worth $35 to use at Mimi’s Cafe in the future and if you donated $5 or more you get a red dress pin. The donation part of it is still going on through the month of February.

More women die of cardiovascular disease than from the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. But 80 percent of cardiac events in women could be prevented if women made the right choices for their hearts involving diet, exercise and abstinence from smoking. Make it your mission to learn all you can about heart attacks and stroke — don’t become a statistic. CALL 9-1-1

My Sister died of a heart attack. It’s an association that’s near and dear to my heart. All women need to learn the signs and know to call 911! Below is a little video about a Mom that helps everyone but herself and ends up having a heart attack. It’s funny, but serious at the same time. Check it out:

I unfortunately forgot to take pictures of my friend and kids and I in red, but we all did wear it! We each donated $5 and got a pin from Mimi’s. We really enjoyed our lunches. My friend had the Tomato Basil soup for her free soup, which she let me taste and it was really good! It had a slight kick to the end, but I would definitely order it for myself in the future. I had the Baked French Onion soup. I really liked the croutons they had in the soup. They were flat and still crispy when you bit into them. I went with the bacon cheeseburger for lunch (way to lower the heart attack risk!) I wasn’t really fond of the barbecue sauce Mimi’s used, but I’m a texture person and it was a bit chunky. My friend had the chicken plate that came with fresh fruit and greens. It looked really good! Monkey wanted Mimi Mouse pancakes with applesauce and Little Man had grilled cheese with fresh fruit. He attacked his food and ate really well. The kids got free dirt cup desserts with their lunches, which none of us were fond of. They tasted like they’d been prepared the day before. The Oreos were moist and smooshy, the pudding was kind of chewy and the worms were not. Besides the so/so desserts, we really did enjoy our lunch.
