movie reviewI saw previews for Real Steel when I went to see The Help and I knew I had to see it. I LOVE Hugh Jackman. Heck, Buddy is named after his character from Van Helsing (although, that was my husband’s doing, not mine.) When I got the offer to preview the movie this past Monday I jumped at the chance. My husband said it was nice to go out on a movie date that didn’t involve a Twilight movie.

“A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback. ”

The whole movie we couldn’t figure out who the main woman actress was. I kept swearing it was Piper from Charmed and hubby kept telling me no way. Well I was wrong, it was Evangeline Lilly, AKA Kate from Lost. I was a little annoyed that some people brought their younger kids to the movie and they were making noise and running up and down the stairs and aisles. The movie is PG-13.

The son, Max, talks back a lot in the movie and while it’s cute in a movie, I wouldn’t want my kids talking to me that way nor would I want them to see another child talking to his father that way. I think they did a great job on the Robots. There were times I laughed and cried. It was well done altogether. I think it’s a movie worth seeing in the theater because of the robots, it’s fun to see on the big screen. I totally recommend you go see it. If you saw an early preview, what do you think?
