New House Update

The new house is coming along slowly. It’s been hard to work on it when I’m also taking care of 3 kids, taking care of every day stuff and making cakes for everyone. Don’t get me wrong, I am totally enjoying making all these cakes. It’s just hard to see them when you haven’t finished painting your kitchen ceiling yet so you can put your ceiling fan/light combo back up and you just don’t get enough light to make detailed, pretty cakes!

We’re looking for more furniture for our house. I was recently contacted from CSN Stores to do a review, so I’m hoping to find something we need. CSN Stores has over 200 amazing online stores where you can almost find anything you need whether it be a sofa or a suitcase, a crib or a cookie sheet! We already have a sofa from when we bought the house but we still need chairs for our bedroom. Charlie wants two sitting chairs for our bedroom. I think it’ll just become another laundry holder, but whatever; I’m still looking.

The only room that is finished is Monkey’s. (I say finished, but she still needs her carpet cleaned)

Whoops the stepladder was still there

Still to be done:

  • Master Bedroom: unpack and paint walls
  • Boys’ Room: scrape & paint ceiling, paint walls
  • Bathrooms: completely redo
  • Whole House: trim- paint white, clean carpets
  • Kitchen: finish ceiling, paint walls, paint counters, do something with floors
  • Family Room: scrape ceiling eventually

Too much to do!

We got the house!

So I know I have not updated since Wednesday. It has been insane! Closing FINALLY happened on Wednesday. At 30 minutes before closing we still had no idea how much money to bring to the table. They told us just get a cashier’s check for $1000 made out to us. If they needed to give us some back, they would. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised to walk away with that check plus some! The signing the paperwork part wasn’t bad AT ALL. I think we were done with that in approx 30 minutes. Closing took over 2 hours, though, because our bank was slow with the transfer and there were a few items wrong on the HUD. So we sat around just talking and listening to the two lawyers tell stories. It was very laid back. I was a little  LOT nervous about going to closing. I had no idea what to expect and you hear horror stories of things coming up last minute. We’d never met the husband and only heard bad things about him. I was afraid he’d not show up at all to sign, or show up and cause problems. Well, he didn’t show up, but he had already signed all the paperwork. Whew!

After closing we picked up the kids and headed to OUR new home. I still haven’t gotten my family picture taken outside of it yet but will hopefully get that done today. We have been working since we got in here. We have Charlie’s uncle, Kelly, and his friend, Dave here helping. Kelly is a certified plumber and man, it’s great to have him! We want to move the washer and dryer to the basement. We THOUGHT it was already roughed in for the washer to go down there. Then Kelly tested a pipe to see where the water drained out… into another room in the basement. ugh. So Kelly’s been tearing out drywall, running pipes and just working his butt off. Tomorrow they have to break cement in the basement and dig a big hole for an ejector pit. Who knew it would be this much work just to put two machines in the basement. Our friend is a licensed electrician and will be running the electrical.

Charlie’s parents have been a huge help so far as well. His Dad has come two days in a row and completely given the yard a makeover. His brother Robert came yesterday, too. The three of them worked for hours doing backbreaking yard work.

David’s Godparents came on Saturday and are coming again today. They got Monkey’s room ready for painting. Hopefully her room will be done today and ready for moving in to.

I’m so torn about this coming weekend. Charlie has to get the house moved Saturday and Sunday. The problem is I’m supposed to be going to WordCamp Chicago. I want to go SO badly. I want the knowledge. I NEED the break. I feel bad that I have to leave Charlie to move the house by himself, though. I have been looking forward to WordCamp for months.

Closing Day

At 11:30 this morning I should be getting writer’s cramp! We are FINALLY set to close. We will be in the house as soon as we have the keys starting to get things moving along. I can’t wait to share before and after pics during my June housewarming party with you! In the meantime, please wish us luck today!

A little update

So… we didn’t close on Friday :( There was missing paperwork all around, none of which was an end-all to buying the house, it just all has to be in for FHA to release funds. So far we are tentatively planned for this coming Friday to close. I know they were having a little issue planning it as the seller’s attorney is supposed to be out of town on Friday. They were trying to find another attorney or paralegal to step in just for the closing. Let’s hope it happens! We’re ready to get those keys and start work! I have review items starting to roll in for the Housewarming blog party and it’s more stuff to move! I want to have it sent directly to the house! I’m ready to move in!

Wish us luck that we close this week. We seem to need it! :)

I also wanted to say… I know a lot of you come around for my recipes and couponing scores. I promise I will get back into the swing of things after this move. I love to cook with the kids and share with you. Expect some healthier, kid friendly recipes coming soon!!
