JCPenney Family Portraits Special

image from jcpportraits.com

Are you looking to get some family portraits taken? JC Penney Portraits Studio is having a great deal this month. Their April promotion of $20 for 6 traditional portrait sheets (mix and match size and images) as well as one free $9 sitting fee. (Portraits must be 10×3 or smaller.) What a great way to get some updated family pictures. Did you just have a baby? I know a few friends that have! I know it’s time for my family to get updated portraits done. We haven’t had any done in over a year. I was just going through pictures of the first day of 1st grade for Buddy and can’t believe how much he’s grown this past school year! As children, they change so fast! Don’t miss it by not keeping up on photos.

Do you need portrait inspiration? I started a JC Penney portrait inspiration board on Pinterest with some poses and background ideas. Needs some ideas to prep for your pictures? Here’s some ideas to start with:

Tips for preparing for your Portraits:

Dress for Portrait Success

*Keep clothing simple. Try to choose solid colors for your portraits. Avoid large, bold patterns such as plaids and stripes. Remember, bright colors also draw attention away from your face.

*Avoid short sleeves and tank tops. Long sleeves will draw attention away from your arms and helps bring the focus back to your face.

*jcpportraits’ photographers may suggest a full-length pose. Make sure you coordinate portrait clothing from head to toe.

*Darker clothing slims. Choose shades of black, brown, blue, dark green and other jewel-toned colors. Light tones tend to emphasize body size.

*Scoops or v-necks flatter shorter necks and full faces. Turtlenecks or high-necked garments flatter longer necks and slender faces.

*Keep clothing consistent. Dress everyone in the same style. Don’t mix casual and formal clothing in portraits.

Coordinate Colors

*Wear light on white. Light pastel or white clothing looks best against a light-colored or white portrait background.

*Wear dark on dark. Dark clothing looks best against darker backgrounds and creates a more formal mood in portraits.

*Don’t mix light and dark colors in portraits. Show your style in small accents. Save stronger colors and patterns for accessories like scarves and neckties.

Props and Backgrounds

*Ask your photographer for advice. If you’re not sure what you want in your portrait, jcpportrait photographers can help you choose a portrait background that suits your needs.

*Add in your personality. Bring your own props for a personal touch. Consider items such as baby blanket, stuffed animal, or a special toy.

When Buddy was a baby he had a special blanket that he wouldn’t leave anywhere. (He still sleeps with it.) I got pictures taken with him and that blanket. By the time we had gotten to those photos he had had enough picture taking so I gave him his blankie to calm down. Of course, after that he wouldn’t give it up. My suggestions: if you’re bringing a baby for pictures, let the baby have a nap first and make sure they’re well fed. Pictures can take a long time, so have snacks and a drink with for them. Even if the picture taking itself goes well and fast, it does take a while for them to pull up your photos to choose from. Don’t tense up! I know you want the perfect shot, but if Mama’s stressed out, the child will sense it and not be happy and natural in the photos!

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of jcpenney Portrait Studio. I was asked to create a Pinterest Board and pin at least five (5) pins. I give jcpenney the right to repin any or all images/original content from this board. I received a promotional item as a thanks for my participation.

My Job Chart

MyJobChart.com, an online chore chart was designed to teach young people the concept of responsibility, work ethic and the value of money by giving them a way to earn points for completing their chores.

The free site has always offered a way for young users to ‘spend’ their points on rewards they want, ‘share’ what they earn with a chosen charity, or to ‘save’ for the future.”

Kids are able to experience the tremendous rewards of earning money for themselves and then of accumulating that money and saving for the future. As they do this they will get a $20 bonus into each child’s account just for signing up for a kids savings account.

My Job Chart is easy of use and the high-tech approach have made MyJobChart.com a hit with more than 140,000 kids in just over a year since its inception with kids completing over 9.4 Million chores using the site!

Online Forums

What kind of online forums do you visit? There are forums for everything! There are weight loss, blogging, crafting, knitting, health, wellness, depression forums, etc. I started out my forum addiction with the Weight Watchers forums when I was trying to lose weight back in 2004. I spent hours at work every day hanging out with my new weight loss friends sharing goals, failures, and just general life. We’d have “trolls” visit our boards here and there and totally change the flow of our day. From Wikipedia:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

I ended up getting pregnant after I lost a little over 30 pounds and eventually moved on from those forums. Next I was trying to find a new place for myself because I had a baby and lived in a place with no family and very few friends. I found a group online called the Lollipop League. It was an awesome group that brought moms together with same aged children so they can play together and you can get Mommy time. In that group I found a friend in Lee who turned me on to a new forum called BabyTalkBio (it has since changed to The Mamasphere.) That forum got me through my first few years with my babies. I met a ton of awesome women on those forums that I still consider friends. We had “IRL” in real life meetups with the kids and even had yearly meetups together. A few of my friends started blogging when I was on that forum and have been very successful, including Lee. She now has MySentimentExactlee and EntertainmentExactLee. My husband finally talked me into blogging at the end of 2009 and shortly after Lee told me about a blogging forum called MomDot. I belong to a few other blogging forums, but MomDot is where my heart is. I have learned so much from the women (and men) on that board. I have gotten awesome opportunities including going on three Brandcation trips. If you haven’t found a forum for yourself, I suggest you find one. It is a great way to meet like minded people and get information to help you out.

2011 Larsen Christmas Light Show

Countrywide Landscaping, Elburn, IL, Chicago Lights, Christmas

Looking for a great holiday light show? Check out the Larsen Christmas Light Show in Elburn, IL. We went tonight and really enjoyed it. You drive up in your car and turn on 88.5 on the radio and listen to the music that the lights are timed to. It’s definitely nice to not have to get out of your cozy car to see the lights. We didn’t stay to watch the whole show because of the drive home and the kids having school in the morning. The kids loved it and are already asking me when we can go back. They seem to have a lot more songs this year than they did last year. I think we sat there for around five songs before I decided to go.

Keep an eye out in that window in the middle. You can see Santa conducting the lights. The kids loved it!

Hours are Mon-Thurs 5:30pm-10:30pm Fri-Sun 5:30pm-Midnight

The address is: 42W891 Beith Rd., Elburn, IL 60119

The lights are put on by Countrywide Landscaping.
